The “Native Plants of the Balmoral Area, Plant Identification Day” held on the 28th of October with Adam Merrick from Trust for Nature proved to be an enjoyable day with the weather being perfect for a walk exploring the beautiful Balmoral landscape.
Over 40 people joined in on the day with members of the Melbourne Botanical Gardens and the Hamilton Field Naturalist in attendance.
The group explored three sites in the Balmoral area including privately owned land and a Trust for Nature site as well as an area that was managed in conjunction with agricultural production.
Over 100 plants, grasses and ground flora were identified with more than 15 species of native orchids.
President Martin Rowe and Secretary Graham Weaver were delighted with the success of the event and are eager to hold another one in 2018.
